How to find Control through Letting Go? Surrender
Apr 19, 2024
Today, we delve into a profound concept that can lead to inner peace and transformation: Surrender.
What is Surrender?
It's the state of non-resistance to what has happened or what we're feeling in the present moment.
Surrender is a journey, not a destination, and it can't be faked or forced.
Let's explore this idea together.
1) The Essence of Surrender:
Surrender is the art of non-interference, a state where we stop trying to control or judge our experiences.
It's letting the past arise and depart without our attempts to halt it.
The mind transcends its habitual judgments of events as good or bad, and the battle of opposites comes to an end.
Surrender includes not just psychological, but also physical non-resistance. It involves a total relaxation of the body as the mind enters non-resistance.
From this state, a new kind of action begins.
2) Control through Surrender:
A surrendered mind, takes action without struggling.
Surrender leads into Control, and when Control runs out, it becomes Surrender.
The ultimate result of Surrender is Action.
Lin Yin and Yang, they merge into each other.
When nothing we do works, the mind surrenders.
When the mind surrenders, we do something that works.
3) No Tricks, No Pretense:
Surrender is not something you can practice or achieve through clever methods or techniques. It can't be feigned or pretended. It's a profound shift that often occurs as a desperate act of a mind with nowhere else to turn.
The first time it may happen, it will be accidental, yet, once it does happen, it can be consciously practiced, because our mind learns its patterns.
The first time it happens, it may feel as if the ground beneath your feet is pulled away, and instead of falling, you have begun to float.
You are no longer fighting, therefore you have all the energy your mind has, available to use.
4) When Fear creates Surrender
You encounter a situation that triggers intense fear, such as a stage fright. In a state of surrender, you allow the fear to be fully present without trying to push it away.
You observe it without feeling that anything negative is taking place, and let it arise.
You stop resisting, because you can't.
Let fear move through you as it pleases.
Once it is done what it needs to, its force dissipates.
As quickly as it arrived, it begins to leave.
You feel light and fearless.
5) When Hurt creates Surrender:
Remember a past hurt or betrayal that has haunted you. This memory comes up and occupies your mind. You let it rise to the surface, stay with it without escaping.
A few difficult moments pass, as images flash across your mind.
You keep allowing everything that follows.
Then the burden lifts gently. A lightness and forgiveness takes its place. This is surrender.
A causeless letting go of what was hurtful.
6) Your Journey into Surrender:
Surrender is a deeply personal experience, and it unfolds uniquely for each of us. It's not about suppressing or denying your feelings but about embracing them without interference.
It's about learning to let go and finding peace in the midst of life's storms.
To surrender is not to protect yourself when a storm is on the horizon, but walking towards it and letting it center right over you.
It is to discover that in the eye of the storm, there is great peace.
Have you experienced moments of surrender, even briefly, in your life?
What did they teach you about the nature of the mind and the freedom that lies within non-resistance?
With gratitude,
Amit
